So, you are curious about the requirements for teaching English online.  If your Bachelor degree is not in Education or you don’t have a teaching license you may wonder if you are qualified to teach English online. Maybe while reviewing the requirements to become a Qkids teacher you came across the need to have a teaching certificate such as a TESOL and you might think that lacking this requirement disqualifies you for the job since you don’t have one or even know what it is.  Let me reassure you that this requirement is easily met, and you can get one for nineteen dollars with my referral link.   This is great news!

What is TESOL?

TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and encompasses what used to be called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

Understanding the Difference Between TEFL, TESL, & TESOL

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) programs are generally aimed at teaching English in countries where English is not widely spoken, whereas TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) programs are aimed at teaching English in countries where English is more central to daily life. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programs provide a curriculum that can be adapted to both needs.

Deciding Which Program is Right for You

Because English is not widely spoken in China, a TEFL or TESOL program would be the best option to pursue. There are certificates and degree programs ranging from bachelor’s degrees all the way to doctoral degrees. A certificate is the quickest and most cost-effective option to become a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language.

In December of 2019 Qkids sent teachers a notification that clarifies this requirement and specifically mentions that the TESOL certificate from International Open Academy has passed review and is currently an accepted certification.

What will I learn?

  • How to motivate students who are new to the English language.
  • How to use a student’s primary language to teach them a new language.
  • The basics of linguistics, which will help bridge the gap between the students’ primary language and English.
  • All the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills you will need to impart in your students.
  • Basic pedagogical techniques
  • Classroom management strategies
  • How to get hired abroad

How long will it take?

This is the best part of the IOA TESOL course!  I literally got my certification in a weekend.  As a work from home homeschooling mom I don’t have the time to take a full semester course to gain this requirement!  I was so happy that I could just knock this out without sacrificing too much of my precious time.

For all of 2019 Qkids has been diligently working to keep their teachers apprised to the changes in governmental regulations and encouraging teachers to make sure their credentials are in place to avoid a disruption in teaching.  Don’t let this simple teaching certificate stand in your way of being awesome!  Teaching English online with Qkids has been such a blessing to my family as we work towards our financial goals!  Use this link to get your TESOL from International Open Academy for 19$!

I am happy to help you navigate the hiring process with Qkids so feel free to ask me any questions and be sure to check out my YouTube channel for in depth teaching tutorials and teaching tips.

Happy Teaching!
